WHAT IS BOTOX AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Botox® injections are used to create a fresher and more youthful appearance by causing a temporary freezing of the treated facial muscles
• on the forehead (frown lines),
• vertically or horizontally in between the eyes (brow furrows or glabellar) and/or
• the crow’s feet or laughter lines around the eyes.
• to correct a “gummy” looking smile.
• on “bunny line” wrinkles either side of the nose
• In the chin to correct “chin-ullite” bumpy chin
• in the masseter muscles to slim the face, and help with teeth grinding
• in the platysmal bands
The procedure is safe, not painful and is quick to perform.
There are different types of Botulinum A toxin on the market, that have different brand names (eg Dysport/Azzalure and Xeomin/Bocouture..) These are NOT the same thing as BOTOX®, and should not be called so. Some people don’t tolerate these other products well, and in our experience – their results are nowhere near as pleasing or have the longevity we strive for. We only use branded Allergan Botox at our clinics.
WHO PERFORMS THE INJECTIONS?
BOTOX® Injection procedures are considered medical techniques that should be carried out in a controlled medical environment and administered by a qualified and experienced medical professional. We only use experienced, qualified doctors to perform our treatments, so you can be absolutely sure of a highly professional, discreet and safe service.
What does the treatment entail?
There is an initial detailed consultation with a doctor, who will listen to what effect you are trying to achieve and advise accordingly. They will ask you to move the relevant areas of your face ( – that you wish to soften and rejuvenate), note any natural asymmetry, and take photographs for your own private record sheets. A bespoke treatment of Botox® will be administered, as every patient is different and not everyone wishes to have the same end result. Between 5-10 small injections are necessary, depending on which areas are to be treated, and each combined consultation and treatment lasts around 30 minutes.
How Does Botox Work?
Very small amounts of Botox (botulinum toxin), a purified protein, are injected into specific areas to improve lines, wrinkles and furrows. The injection blocks nerve impulses, muscle activity that causes the frown lines is reduced, and a smoother look results.
Botox is administered with very short and small needles making the injection process very comfortable. No anesthesia is required and downtime is definitely not expected afterward. Bruising is uncommon. Just a 3 to 4 days after this completely injection treatment you will develop a younger, more relaxed appearance
What Can Botox do for me?
Quick, safe and effective, Botox reduces or eliminates facial lines and wrinkles for up to four months with no downtime and little to no discomfort. Through a series of tiny injections, BOTOX gives you a rejuvenated look by smoothing crow’s feet beneath the eyes, frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal lines across the forehead, worry lines around the mouth, and lines on the neck.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO START WORKING AND HOW DOES THE EFFECTS LAST FOR?
BOTOX® should never wear off in a few weeks. If it does, you’re likely not getting the right dosage or product, or the injection technique isn’t correct. It is possible to develop a resistance to BOTOX®, but this is extremely uncommon. We haven’t yet come across this (although not impossible ~ chances of this happening are 1:10,000). It’s far more likely you aren’t being treated properly, and the main reasons
The response to the injections is not immediate, and it will usually take several days for the muscles to respond, with efficacy peaking at around 2-3 weeks. The effects are temporary and place the muscles into hibernation for approximately 3-6 months, depending on the area you wish to treat and how many times you have had it previously. After this time repeat Botox® injections will be required to maintain its skin smoothing effects. Patients often report that indeed the effects last longer, after their first or second repeated treatments. Continued use can have a preventative effect, as logic dictates the treated areas (and therefore, the overlying skin) move less. failure of treatment can be related to injection technique, an inadequate number of units or the BOTOX® used on you was too old or inactive or overly diluted. The total number of units injected is the key
I'M WORRIED THAT I LOOK EXPRESSIONLESS AND HAVE A 'FROZEN LOOK'?!
The Dr. Igor mainly administers Botox® in the upper third of the face but will use advanced techniques in the lower areas, less frequently. The injections temporarily paralyse the treated muscles to allow any wrinkles (or gummy effect) caused by the constant movement of these muscles to gradually soften after treatment, even in older patients. The overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles continue to work normally so the facial expression is unaffected by the treatment. Patients look the same as they always have done, only more youthful and rested. The accuracy and precision of the professional administering them, play an important part in achieving a natural result without side-effects, which is why our clinic only use experienced doctors.
WILL THE INJECTIONS ONLY WORK FOR CERTAIN AGE RANGES?
lst it is true that the more elastic the skin, the better the treatment will work – Botox® can be utilised to smooth wrinkles from around 20 to 65 years of age. It works best in patients who have lines caused by muscle pull (and preferably before the lines have become too deep), as opposed to wrinkles caused largely by the excess loose skin and/ or sun damage. An individual consultation with one of our doctors is the best way of ascertaining whether the treatment is suitable and beneficial for you as an individual
IS BOTOX® THE SAME AS 'FILLERS'?
short answer is no. Fillers work by “filling in” a wrinkle, whereas Botox® places the muscle causing the wrinkle into hibernation. Fillers are not as effective as Botox® in treating wrinkles in the upper third of the face but are very useful in plumping out the skin in the lower two-thirds of the face.
